Presence of Covid brings new set of challenges for Wolverines

The long offseason for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and the rest of the MJHL ends this weekend when the 2020-21 training camp opens on Friday. A lot has changed since the 2019-20 playoffs were shut down. Terms such as ‘COVID-19’, ‘personal distance’, and ‘flattening the curve’ have all become part of the collective vernacular around the world.

But with governments feeling they have a solid-grasp on this worldwide pandemic, things are slowly starting to get back to normal, and that includes junior hockey returning to action in this province.

Getting ready for this season, which will be like no other before it, did not come without its challenges and obstacles, according to Wayway head coach and GM Taylor Harnett.

“We continued to reach out and recruit players from other provinces, and continued to talk to other teams about potential trades,” said Harnett. “But one area of concern is American hockey players not coming across the border to play hockey this winter. And that’s a challenge for us and other teams.”
